Origin and history
Hand reflexology is the "little sister" of foot reflexology. Same principles (correspondences between zones and organs), applied to the hands. Practiced since Antiquity, codified in the 20th century in parallel with foot reflexology. Particularly suitable for self-practice.
Principles and foundations
The hand contains the same reflex zones as the foot, organized in mirror. Zones are smaller but more accessible (easy self-massage). Stimulation by precise pressure activates responses on the corresponding organ.
Typical session flow
30 to 60 minutes. You are seated, hands resting on a support. The practitioner examines and massages each reflex zone with their fingers. Often taught as self-care to practice daily.
Main indications
Stress, anxiety, mild digestive disorders, headaches, sleep disorders, self-care support for people with reduced mobility. Very suitable for children and seniors (sometimes sensitive feet).
Contraindications and precautions
Avoid on areas of wounds, burns, hand skin infections. Adaptable to all conditions.
State of research
Less scientifically studied than foot reflexology. Likely similar benefits (relaxation, anxiety). Suitable as a complementary self-regulation tool.
How to choose a practitioner
Often integrated in complete reflexology training. Typical fees: $50 to $80 per session. Frequent self-practice initiation workshops ($60 to $150).
