Activation and mastery of the primordial energy along the spine.

Intense yogaImportant precautions

Origin and history

Kundalini yoga comes from the Indian tantric tradition, considered one of the most powerful branches of yoga. "Kundalini" means "coiled": energy asleep at the base of the spine, which can be awakened to rise through the chakras to the top of the skull (liberation, samadhi). Popularized in the West by Yogi Bhajan in 1969.

Principles and foundations

Kundalini yoga combines dynamic postures (kriyas), powerful breathings (pranayama, notably breath of fire), chanted mantras, mudras and meditations. It aims to progressively awaken the kundalini energy to transform consciousness. Intense practice that can produce profound effects.

Typical session flow

60 to 90 minutes in group class. Traditional white attire (favors perception of the energy field, according to tradition). The class combines intense rhythmic breathings, held postures, chanted mantras, meditation periods and final relaxation.

Main indications

Structured spiritual search, increased vital energy, deep transformation, life transition support, body-mind integration.

Contraindications and precautions

WARNING: intensive practice can trigger "kundalini crises" (anxiety, insomnia, hyperactivity, sometimes dissociative episodes) in vulnerable people. Avoid in case of active psychiatric disorders, epilepsy, uncontrolled hypertension, first trimester pregnancy. Practice with an experienced teacher able to regulate intensity.

State of research

Some clinical studies show benefits: reduced anxiety, cognitive improvement, effect on mild depression, sleep quality. Studies in progress on neurological effects (measurable brain modifications after regular practice).
