Homeopathy

Dynamized dilutions of natural substances to stimulate self-healing.

Traditional medicineHighly controversial approach

Origin and history

Homeopathy was founded in 1796 by German doctor Samuel Hahnemann, on the principle "similia similibus curantur" (like cures like). It is one of the most used complementary medicines in the world, particularly in France, Germany, India, Switzerland, Brazil. It is also one of the most scientifically controversial.

Principles and foundations

A substance that causes symptoms in a healthy person, diluted in tiny doses and "dynamized" (succussions), would treat the same symptoms in the sick. Dilutions go to levels where statistically no molecule of the original substance remains — this is what creates scientific controversy.

Typical session flow

First appointment: 1 to 1.5 hours (classical homeopathic consultation). Long interview on your physical and emotional symptoms, modalities (what worsens/improves), personal terrain. The practitioner selects the personalized "simillimum remedy" from over 3000 strains.

Main indications

According to practitioners: functional disorders (digestive, sleep, anxiety), allergies, pediatric follow-up, chronic pathology support. To be considered as support, never as treatment of serious pathologies.

Contraindications and precautions

No physical contraindication (very high dilution). BUT: NEVER replace medical treatment with homeopathy for serious pathologies. Vaccines should NEVER be replaced by homeopathic "nosodes" (no protection demonstrated).

State of research

Rigorous scientific meta-analyses (Lancet 2005, NHMRC Australia 2015) conclude that homeopathy has no effectiveness above placebo. Many scientific bodies (Medical Academies, NHS UK since 2017) have withdrawn reimbursement or institutional support. Nevertheless, felt benefits (placebo effect, quality of listening) remain real for many patients.

How to choose a practitioner

Prefer homeopathic doctors (medical training + homeopathy specialization) rather than practitioners without medical training, especially for children. Typical fees: $70 to $120 per consultation. Beware of practitioners discouraging you from conventional medicine.
