Origin and history
The chakra system comes from the Indian tantric tradition, codified in the Upanishads (1500-1000 BC) then enriched in the Middle Ages. The 7 main chakras (Muladhara to Sahasrara) are aligned along the spine and associated with specific organs, emotions and functions. Popularized in the West by theosophical currents in the 20th century.
Principles and foundations
Each chakra would be a swirling energy center ("wheel" in Sanskrit) receiving and distributing prana (vital energy). An unbalanced chakra (blocked or hyperactive) would manifest as specific physical, emotional and energetic disorders. Balancing uses visualization, mantras, colors, crystals, mudras, sounds.
Typical session flow
60 to 90 minutes. Lying clothed. The practitioner first evaluates the state of each chakra (subtle perception, sometimes pendulum), then applies different techniques as needed: crystal placement, mudras, guided visualizations, specific sounds (notes or mantras associated with each chakra).
Main indications

Contraindications and precautions
No physical contraindication. To be considered as spiritual support, not as medical treatment.
State of research
The chakra system has no scientific validation as an anatomical reality. Its symbolic and meditative function remains nevertheless very useful in introspective practice. Some research on chakra-focused meditation shows effects on emotional regulation.
How to choose a practitioner
