Biological decoding

Approach seeking emotional or symbolic meaning in physical symptoms — controversial, to be practiced with discernment.

Psycho-emotionalHighly controversial approach

Origin and history

Biological decoding (sometimes called "biodecoding" or "total biology") was born in the 1980s from the German doctor Ryke Geerd Hamer ("German new medicine") then taken up in France by Claude Sabbah, Christian Flèche and others. It is a VERY CONTROVERSIAL approach: the original sources (Hamer) have been the subject of criminal convictions for illegal practice of medicine and incitement to non-treatment of serious pathologies. Modern French versions distance themselves from these abuses.

Principles and foundations

Biological decoding posits that each disease or physical symptom would have a precise psychic meaning, linked to an unresolved emotional conflict ("biological shock"). By identifying and resolving this conflict, the symptom could subside or disappear. The symptom ↔ emotion correspondences are codified in different "dictionaries" depending on the school.

Typical session flow

A session lasts 60 to 90 minutes. In-depth interview on the symptom (date of appearance, life context at that moment, emotional and family history). The practitioner helps identify the "conflict" they would associate with the symptom, then proposes emotional resolution paths. Several spaced sessions.

Main indications

To be considered ONLY as emotional support and psychological exploration, NEVER as treatment of physical pathologies. Can provide a comforting symbolic reading for some.

Contraindications and precautions

MAJOR DANGER: NEVER replace medical treatment with this approach. Serious pathologies (cancers, autoimmune diseases, depressions, psychiatric disorders) absolutely require parallel conventional medical follow-up. Absolutely beware of practitioners who suggest that your cancer (or other pathology) "will go away by working the emotion". Several documented deaths following treatment refusals linked to this approach.

State of research

No scientific validation. The proposed symptom ↔ emotion correspondences are not reproducible, vary by school, and have no demonstrated biological basis. The approach is widely rejected by the medical and scientific community.

How to choose a practitioner

EXTREME CAUTION. Prefer ONLY practitioners who: 1) explicitly distance themselves from Hamer's abuses; 2) insist that you follow your conventional medical treatment; 3) NEVER promise cure. Typical fees: $80 to $130 per session. Flee if the practitioner attacks conventional medicine or discourages you from seeing a doctor.
