Origin and history
Biokinergy was created in 1984 by Michel Lidoreau, a French physiotherapist, from his research on joint and energy blockages. It is an exclusively French-speaking method, mainly disseminated in France, Belgium, French-speaking Switzerland and Quebec. The biokinergist title is protected by a unique French school (École Française de Biokinergie).
Principles and foundations
Biokinergy posits that the body accumulates "micro-windings" of tissues (fascia, muscles, joints) following physical or emotional trauma. These windings would accumulate on Chinese meridians and create chains of remote tensions. The biokinergist detects these windings by very fine palpation and releases them manually.
Typical session flow
A session lasts 45 to 60 minutes. Lying in underwear or soft clothes. The practitioner palpates the body to identify winding areas, then applies very precise manipulations (light pressures, derotations) to release them. All in a calm, meditative atmosphere.
Main indications
Chronic pain (back, joints, migraines), aftermath of physical trauma (accidents, falls, surgeries), stress-related digestive disorders, chronic fatigue, sleep disorders, chronic pathology support.
Contraindications and precautions
Few contraindications. Avoid in case of acute infection, unconsolidated fracture, recent phlebitis, first trimester of pregnancy. Inform the biokinergist of any cardiovascular pathology or coagulation disorders.
State of research
Formal scientific research on biokinergy specifically is rare. It builds on the bases of osteopathy (more established research on fascia and the myofascial system), acupuncture (Chinese meridians), and fasciatherapy.
How to choose a practitioner
Verify certification by the École Française de Biokinergie (in France, or an accredited school). Prefer practitioners also trained in physiotherapy or osteopathy. Typical fees: $70 to $110 per session. A common treatment course lasts 3 to 6 sessions.
